I believe that what is important in tattooing is not the process, but the quality of work so I do not use electric equipment and stick to “Tebori”.
What is Tebori is and what advantages does it offer.
Tebori is a method of tattooing using a bundle of needles attached to bamboo operated by hand.
There are several fine carving methods such as hanebori and tsukibori among tebori. The meaning is bounce and thrust.
I can’t say for sure, but I get the impression that today there are more “tattooers” with strong traditional beliefs than “tattoo artists” who practice fashion and art.
Since the merits are mainly utilized in the “painting” of the tattoo, there are many carvers who use a machine for the sujibori and do the painting by hand, and I am one of them.
Advantages of Tebori
It is easy to add color, and it is easy to create vivid colors, and it is easy to express fine blurring.
Because the hole made by the needle is wider than the machine, pigments with large particles can easily penetrate the skin.
White has the largest particles, so Tebori is easier to color.
Demerit
Compared to machine carving, which pierces the body with a needle 80 to 140 times per second, Tebori can only pierce the body 3 to 5 times per second.
Therefore, the carving speed is slow, so the cost to finish is high.
